  Thoughts that guide Abhijit Mukherjee

"Be forthright, be frank,
Be fearless, whatever the odds.
Never hesitate to take a stand if you believe in it.
Never hesitate to speak out boldly against the wrongs.
And always, ensure that you illuminate the truth
Behind the events".

Tagore said (he wanted the country to be one) where the mind is without fear and the head is held high. Here the head is in the gutter and the mind is full of fear.
To be or not to be - that is the question
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them
(The Prince of Denmark, Act 3, Scene 1, Hamlet)
Principle of creative destruction. The ten avatars of Krishna - each time, one got destroyed so that new things could emerge with a new version. Similarly in life, you need to destroy to create something new and better.
Morality is personal. A person who wants to be morally upright neither needs approval from the society or external conditions nor conditions conducive to morality.
Stay focused on the main issue and not to be swept off by the trivia.
Marcus Aurelius: What you hear is opinion, What you see is perspective.
Mahatma Gandhi: "We must always listen to criticism of our faults and failings, never to our praises."
Lord Buddha stayed with the courtesan Amrapali and ate food by her and she later became her disciple. Similarly, Mary Magdalene was a fallen woman (according to the Gospel of Luke as interpreted by Pope Gregory) and Jesus allowed her to wash his feet and she later became her disciple.
There is no saint without a past and no sinner without a future.
Do not treat others the way you would not like to be treated yourself and treat others as you would like yourself to be treated.
"I must be cruel only to be kind" - Shakespeare's Hamlet.

"My hands have the right to know why they have been empty for years. Why they do not have a job even today?"
"My legs have the right to know why they walk from village to village. Why is there no trace of a bus?"
"My hunger has the right to know why there are food grains rotting in the godawns. Why I don't even have a handful of them?"
